Introduction

Hello and welcome to my page. My name is Dia. I’m an MBA holder, and a former Marketeer who (as a Mother) found passion in party planning at first and began a cake journey by accident later.

Discovering Passion in Party Planning

I started planning birthday parties for my kids at first where I found passion in table setups and matching décor to beautiful themes. I used to order ready-made cakes which I was never satisfied with in terms of color and finishing. When I first started party planning, I didn’t know how to bake and didn’t really know what “Fondant” was only to discover that it’s very similar to playdough (a favorite childhood hobby).

From Childhood Artist to Aspiring Baker

I was the artist in my family back when I was a child, and I always loved drawing, working with clay and playdough, arts and craft in addition to fashion designing (with my barbie dolls). My dream back then was to become either an architect, a fashion designer, or an interior designer.

Unexpected Journey into Baking

Frustrated from a couple of pre-ordered cakes, I decided to experiment myself. I called my Mom (who happens to be a great chef and baker) and I asked her whether she knew what fondant was and whether she knew how to make it. I then asked her to bake me a cake and to send me the fondant along with. Since then, she was the one baking, and I only decorated. Later I had to borrow her own recipe book and began experimenting and this is how my baking journey started.

Pioneering Steps and First Success

It's crucial to mention that my first 100 cakes (that I baked for my family and kids) were a total failure. My first-ever decent cake was the one I baked and decorated for my daughter on her 7th birthday where I had a full table of homemade birthday treats alongside that matched her birthday theme. That day, my friends were impressed, and I remember them asking me “Where did you order these from?”. My first-ever supporter and close friend Catia recommended I do this for a living.

Embarking on a Professional Journey

In 2017, I started an Instagram page where I posted every cake I baked for friends and family on the weekends and after a couple of years not really knowing what I was doing or where I was heading, I found myself more and more immersed. I started it for fun, not for any personal gain or praise but for the joy my work brought to kids. Cake art then became an addiction, and I couldn’t get enough. I was surprised with how quickly I was evolving and with increasing demand from friends and friends of friends, I had to quit my job as a Marketing Manager and decided to take this art seriously and to bring @idias_kuwait into the business you see today.

The Origin of i-Dia's

For people who wonder why I chose the name @idias_kuwait. Idias come from combining ideas (party ideas) + Dia (my name). The “i” also reflects the technical era (iphone, ipad) to enforce progress and latest trends.
